Apply online for help with NHS costs

If you find it difficult to pay for your NHS costs you could get help depending on your financial circumstances.

You do not have to be claiming benefits to apply. If you're employed with a low income you may be eligible for help. We'll take your total household income, Council Tax and housing costs into account.

If you apply online, you will:

  • complete your application in around 20 minutes
  • be asked personalised questions based on your circumstances
  • get instant confirmation that we've received your application
  • get a reference number to use if you have any queries
When do you not need to apply

You already get full help with health costs, and do not need to apply online, if you or your partner get:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based JSA (Jobseeker's Allowance)
  • Income-related ESA (Employment and Support Allowance)
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • Universal Credit (if your earnings during your last complete assessment period were £435 or less, or £935 or less if you had a child element or had limited capability for work)

View more information about what these benefits entitle you to(opens in a new tab).

You also get partial help with health costs if you are:

  • under 16 years old
  • aged 18 and under and in full-time education
